Amit Jilka, Dentist and Dental Practice Owner, Abbey House Dental 

Dr Amit Jilka’s practice, Abbey House Dental, is a great example of how to run a successful mixed practice.

Originally a predominantly NHS dentist, Amit purchased the practice in 2012. Over the course of the next two or three years he trained in implantology and sedation alongside his NHS practise and gradually introduced a wider private treatment offering.

He has continued to develop the site at Stone in Staffordshire which now employs around 60 staff and occupies three separate buildings. One is used for NHS treatments only, a second is for private treatment, while the third is for the practice’s hygienists who see both private and NHS patients. In 2023 he also opened a squat practice in nearby Stoke-on-Trent where, as well as five surgeries and a further 20 employees, he has a conference/training centre on the top floor where he has begun offering courses in implant dentistry and business development.

He chose to give up offering NHS treatment himself in 2015 and about three years ago decided to concentrate solely on implant dentistry. As treatment plans can range from £2,000 to £20,000+ being able to offer patient finance was vital to encourage greater treatment uptake.
